While Women’s Day is often marked by appreciation and recognition, women continue to remain underrepresented in investing and financial decision-making, largely due to limited access to simple and relatable financial education. #FinPowerHer addressed this gap by creating a welcoming space where women gained clarity, confidence and a tangible starting point to begin their investment journey.

On 6 March 2026, from 12 noon onwards, First Capital opened its doors at its Head Office at Deal Place, Colombo 02, inviting women from surrounding offices and universities within the vicinity to participate in an informal afternoon of conversation, guidance and confidence building.

The experience brought together close to 200 participants and included the launch of a women-friendly investment guide, mini learning sessions that simplified essential investment concepts, one-on-one consultations with financial professionals, and the opportunity to begin their investment journey. The event also featured interactive elements including a “Financial Freedom” vision board, networking opportunities, and curated takeaway kits designed to encourage goal setting beyond the day itself.

Commenting on the initiative, Deshani Ratnayake, Vice President – Corporate Finance & Advisory at First Capital Advisory Services Ltd, said,

“International Women’s Day should be more than a moment of celebration. It should be a catalyst for capability. Through #FinPowerHer, we created a practical and accessible entry point for women to begin their investing journey. Financial empowerment begins with understanding and understanding begins with the right support.”

Adding further perspective, Amaya Gunasekara, Assistant Vice President – Brand & Partnerships, commented,
